Remove Stains from Coffee Mugs

While doing the dishes, I couldn’t help but to notice the stains on my husband’s favorite coffee cup. We drink a lot of Diet Coke, so it’s Coke that is the culprit this time and not coffee or tea stains. Still, it’s a stain that just wouldn’t come out.

I decided to try baking soda to remove the soda stain. First, I heated up some water in the microwave. Then I added the water and the baking soda to the coffee cup. I let it sit for five minutes.

After five minutes, I took my dish brush and swiped around the sides. I poured out the water and this is the result -

The coffee cup looks really good. There is a slight ring at the bottom. Next time I wash it, I will use the baking soda method again and let it soak longer. My husband will be pleased since those stains really bother him. It just feels like the cup isn’t clean if it doesn’t look clean.

Baking soda cleans so many things. There are recipes for making your own “Soft Scrub” on the internet and laundry soap and I can do laundry for a few cents per load. It’s amazing. There are some basic ingredients: white vinegar, baking soda, washing soda and borax.

I tried a great remedy for gentle, soft hands. Mix 2 tbls. granulated sugar and 1 tsp. vegetable oil in a cup. Remove half the mixture with one hand and rub between hands, then all over one hand (left or right). Now repeat on opposite hand. Rinse with warm soapy water. The sugar removes the dead skin cells and the vegetable oil softens the hands. Great after working in the garden or with flowers.

  2. I periodically use a teaspoon or so of bleach in cups and other things that need to have stains removed and then wash very well. That also works.

  3. That is a nice tip, thanks for the tip.
I have never got any stain problem in mugs, I don’t know why, but there are same problem with the blender of mine ( it is made up of plastic, and has metal blades ), does any body has any solution for that??
