Earth Day – Recycle

I remember one Mother’s Day when I was a child asking when was kid’s day to which my father replied that everyday was Kid’s Day. Well, that’s how I feel about Earth Day. Earth Day is everyday. It’s where we live and we should strive each day to do something nice for Mother Earth.

For Earth Day, I’m taking all of our plastic bottles for recycling. They have been piling up – so it’s time to drop them off.

Plastic bottles are not the only items we recycle. We recycle cans and Capri Sun wrappers. In fact, a lot of schools collect Capri Sun wrappers to turn in for cash for their school. Each wrapper is worth 2 cents but my kid alone – the way she drinks those things – could be worth an extra $50-$100 to a tight school budget.

This summer we should have a nice load of aluminum cans for recycling. It’ll be nice to get some extra pocket change for those cans, too.

Ever since we started recycling our plastic, we have less garbage each week. This makes me very happy to know we are sending less to the landfill and using less garbage bags.

A Broom for Every Occasion

We have no carpeted rooms in our house – which means I sweep fairly often. There is always at least one room that needs to be swept. I have a great all-purpose broom but find a smaller, compact broom is great for some areas of the house. By the door collects a lot of grass deposited there from our shoes. I just take out my little whisk broom and can easily sweep up the grass. It might seem a little lazy to not drag out the big broom but for small jobs, I prefer the smaller broom. It’s easier to handle and takes less effort to sweep dust/grass into the dust pan.

Sony Dash – iPad killer?

Usually I just ignore the countless marketing e-mails I get in my inbox, but one this morning caught my attention. It was from Sony about pre-ordering the Dash – a Personal Internet Viewer to be released April 29, 2010.

From the Sony website, The Dash could potentially be a pretty decent Internet consumption device with apps from You Tube and Netflix. There will also be over 1,000 free apps that will include such apps as alarm clock and radio player. The Dash features a 7 inch LCD touch screen and WIFI.

Will the Dash be competition for the iPad? Absolutely not, or at least this first generation Dash will not be any real threat to the iPad. The Dash has no expandable memory and no battery. From the website, it seems you can access some of Sony’s content like movie trailers and wallpaper – no mention about e-books. It’s definitely not as encompassing as the iPad but for someone looking to enjoy the Internet without using the computer, the Dash could be a good choice.

So, I won’t be pre-ordering mine just yet. I guess I will still save my money for an iPad.
