Measuring Cups

I was watching “Red Eye” last night on the DVR so I guess it was Monday’s night program. Anyway they had the host of the A & E show “Hoarders” on there. He was talking about how some people are compelled to buy a certain item and gave an example of a woman who has 500 pair of scissors.

Now I love to buy measuring cups but my “collection” is not nearly that large. In fact, it’s under 10. But having multiple measuring cups make meal preparation just a little easier. I can measure out several items at the same time. Also I don’t have to clean up a measuring cup to re-use it immediately for another ingredient. The downside is that there are a few more dishes to do. But it’s a trade off. I’d rather do a few more dishes if that means that I can get done cooking faster.

I usually pick up measuring cups at rummage sales and thrift stores especially if they are in good condition. So I wouldn’t say I’m compulsive about buying measuring cups. Right now I have plenty. It really does make cooking easier to have more than one measuring cup.

Oh, I love having multiple measuring cups too. It is very helpful when baking. That is a good tip about getting them at thrift stores. I’ll need to keep my eye out for them the next time I visit Goodwill. Thanks!

You can never have enough measuring cups. I always use one for the dry stuff like measuring rice and flour and one for the liquids. It doesn’t help that I am a messy cook and tend to dirty every dish I can. I have gotten better, once the letters wear off the plastic cups I have no choice but to toss (recycle) them.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much, that doesn’t sound like compulsive behaviour! Now if all 10 of those measuring cups had been identical, that would be a different matter :-)

That lady with 500 scissors… she must have loved art and craft!

  4. I always give a large Pyrex measuring cup at every bridal shower! It is a true “must have”

  5. Measuring cups are good for baking yea i can see that, but if your cookin all the time there comes a point where u can pretty easily get the feel for it and eye it out, this not only saves you from buying measuring cups but also keeps you away from more dirty dishes

  6. I agree with the last comment. Measuring cups is not advisable in cooking perhaps in baking. But, actually I also collect measuring cups.Hahahaha…lol..Yes! I need measuring cups when I’m baking. It helps me to be more accurate in mixing the ingredients.
