Part of our daily routine has become at least one dip in the pool. Of course, before we get in, I put sunblock on both my little girl and me. There are two ingredients that are used in the United States to make true sunblock - zinc oxide and titanuim dioxide. The Coppertone for Kids is sunscreen. The Banana Boat Baby is sunblock and lists titanium dioxide as one of its ingredients(in the whopping list of inactive ingredients). So it’s good to know that our sunblock does contain titanium dioxide. Here is a website that lists some kids sunblocks as well as sunscreen/sunblocks.

  1. I wear sunblock at the pool, but not just outside unless I’m out for a long time. Vitamin D is important! I just saw that on another blog this am. Vitamin D is one of the biggest deficiencies we have

  2. I certainly have to use it, especially when mowing as the sun is pretty hot here.

  3. Yes, I wear it by my pool and probably don’t use it enough.

  4. Yes, sunblock is a must have. It is best to re-apply after being in the pool. Better to be safe than burnt! Thanks for sharing this!

  5. Sunscreen will keep all our children from having skin cancer in their adult lives. Something my parents were not aware of.

  6. At least fifteen years ago NATURAL HEALTH magazine reported that the ingredients in sunscreen CAUSED skin cancers.

I’ve never used it on myself or my kids-if you are really worried about them getting burned-do what everyone did prior to the invention of these chemical sun blockers.

Right when it was declared that the Sun was our health enemy was the start of people becoming seriously depleted in the free vitamin FROM THE SUN-Vitamin D.

Put thin tshirts and hats on your kids and self at the beach and in the pool-limit time in the sun to early hours-out of water and sun at midday.

It is the severe burns that damage skin. A good gradual tan is a good thing.

  7. useful post. thanks

  8. I usually find it a bit of a nuisance to get the sunblock on everyone but it’s really important. To avoid the use of chemicals as much as possible our kids have to wear t shirts and hats on and stay in the shade as much as possible. But children do need Vitamin D from the sun too so you’ve got to find a balance.

  9. I replied to your tweet first – this needs a bit of an update, and will probably be turned into a more comprehensive report.
