My friend gave me a knife set for my birthday a few years back. One knife that I never used was the chef’s knife because it was so big that I just knew I would cut my finger off. Besides, I wasn’t exactly sure how to use it. So for years I would just use the smaller knives to grind through fruits and vegetables. That is until I was watching a cooking show and saw Rachel Ray use a chef’s knife. I thought it might be high time to try out my chef’s knife now that I’ve seen it in action.

I can’t believe I have never used this knife before. If you can’t tell, I don’t cook that much although recently I have begun to do more in the kitchen. I tried the chef’s knife on some tortillas that I had to cut in 1 inch squares for a taco bake.

It worked so well. Usually I have to do two tortillas at a time because my knife can’t handle the stack of six. I can’t believe how easy it was to use this knife. I really need to take a home economics class as I think now I would be much attentive and finally ready to learn about homemaking.

  1. What brand is it? Some knives are really great

  2. I bought my husband a new knife set for Christmas. They are magnificent! Isn’t if funny how we get set in our ways and are afraid to try new things. I usually hate to read instructions so I just use the old appliance etc.

  3. I use that one all the time!

It’s great for chopping veggies too!

  4. That knife was too sharp. I’m still afraid using a chef’s knife. I better keep that off, I don’t want to try using that either.

  5. Isn’t it amazing how sharp big scary knives are? They do the job tho!

  6. I love the big knives for veggies as they are sharp enough that they do not tear them up.

  7. This is a big knife, true. However, it does the job! I have a smaller one that is just as sharp but I rotate.

  8. I love the big knives. They work so well! I use mine all the time!

  9. I’ve learned to use large knives to chop so that I can get big jobs done more quickly. It just takes some practice to learn how to do it correctly. Looks like you are doing fine!

  10. For years we had the worst knives in the world, so I know (now) exactly why you love finding the “perfect one!”

  11. Well dont in trying something new!!! lol I have done the same thing a few times now, its amazing what you discover :P

  12. If your knife is sharp enough, you will never cut your fingers if you are cautious. A sharp knife is safer for your finger tips!

As for using the Chef’s knife, I find it the perfect tool for cutting vegetables: with a smaller knife you have to press with more strenght to cut hard veggies like carrot, I was cutting myself a LOT more using smaller knives because of that! Cutting vegetables with a chef’s knife is such a breeze!

    Nice post!

  13. Chef Knives are the greatest ever. I used to cut things finely with a smaller knife and boy did my fingers hurt from pressing down. Then I found the chef knife and never looked back.

  14. I’ve got a set of chefs knives.. they are so sharp, my wife doesn’t like using them - especially after seeing me cut my finger on them. Just be careful when handling them. Better to keep them in a knife block than in a drawer.

  15. Looks like a good one! I found I have less of a chance cutting myself when I work with a good, sharp knife.

  16. We have a similar one at home. My wife bought it 2 months ago and it is pretty good for kitchen accessory.
