We fight a year long battle with mosquitoes. So since I will soon be planting(April 30th per the Farmer’s Almanac) I’m thinking of adding a few plants that are touted to deter mosquitoes. It would be so nice to enjoy the outdoors this summer without those pesky mosquitoes. Here are a few flowers and herbs that are supposed to naturally repel mosquitoes.
Marigolds are not my favorite flower and wouldn’t normally plant them since they don’t attract butterflies. But if they repel mosquitoes, then marigolds will be all over the place.
Rosemary and Catnip are two herbs I may need to add to my herb garden as they are both said to repel mosquitoes. Plus the Catnip could keep the cat busy and away from the birds.
Lavender is another one that is supposed to keep mosquitoes away.
It seems there are many more that keep mosquitoes away.

It seems the powerful the scent of a flower or herb, the less mosquitoes like them. Hopefully I can find at least a few of these plants locally and see if I noticed any difference in mosquito activity.

Thank you for sharing this. I am not a huge fan of marigolds either, but I certainly can become one. I love lavender.
This is such good information! I plant marigolds to repel bugs but I can’t say I care for them much!
thanks for this info.very informative.i’ll try to look for the local alternatives of those plants here in the Philippines,if there are any.i didn’t know some plants can repel bugs.
I am a mosquito magnet… We do plant marigolds lol… they also keep harmful bugs out of the garden! They are a great companion plant.
I had no idea that marigolds repelled mosquitos. Thanks
Glad to hear that there are flowers that repel these biters!
Great news! I am going to have to try it out.
The catnip would certainly keep the cats busy! I also had not a clue that marigolds did the repelling. You have given me something to think about doing.
I don’t much like marigolds either but if they deter mosquitoes that’s great – maybe I’ll plant some this spring. I don’t think the deer will eat them either – they don’t seem to eat anything yellow.
Thank you for sharing this very informative post. I don’t know that marigold and lavender can repel mosquitoes.
Great ideas! Thanks! I hate mosquitoes, and they’re really bad in the south…
I will have to check them out. We already have more mosquitoes than we need.
I do a TON of biking in the summer, the best advice I ever got was to always go past 20-22km/h, the skeeters just can’t keep up.
I never knew this. I wish I could find something to keep wasps away. My husband is highly allergic and our house is a magnet for them.
Are there anymore plants that repels mosquitos????????????

Having Neem Tree in the backyard also helps to repel mosquitoes and other bugs. – Simon
it is said in this page that powerful scent of flowers and herbs can repel mosquitoes…it is possible that sampaguita could repel mosquito?
I thought I had covered most ground with my tips on how to control chiggers in your garden on my website – how to get rid of chiggers – but your tip about planting certain flowers to deter insects strikes me as a great and insightful extra tip. It is generally said that any mosquito repellent measures and lotions will also work against chiggers. I’ll have to investigate if this extends to the kind of flowers you can plant in your garden too. Thanks.
