Earth Day

Today is Earth Day although I think everyday should be Earth Day. Here is what we’ve done today for Mother Earth:

Took last night’s leftovers to compost

“Upcycled” the leftover biscuits into chicken feed for the chickens.

Holding off on drying the laundry until later in the day.

Open the windows instead of running the air conditioner.

Of course, these are things we do everyday and not just for Earth Day. So what are you doing for Earth Day?

Hi Lynn, I found your blog from our blogging for fun yahoo group.

As for me, not only for Earth Day but everyday for the Earth, we do:

    1. recycle water. we collect our dish washing water and use it to water plants, and believe me, our plants are very healthy, maybe from the foods :) we do not use any fertilizers nor pesticides at all, we grow everything naturally.

    2. we don’t use a/c nor heater, unless it really becomes uncomfortable. when it is hot, we just open windows to let cool breeze comes in, when it is cold, we use the green house effect, that is shutting windows but opening the blinds and curtains to let the sun rays get through and naturally warming the house in the process.

    3. we use energy saving lights, and we only turn on one light :) and limit our activity in the room which has a light.

We try to respect our Earth everyday as well. Our dog loves leftovers, not much gets wasted. We try not to turn on the air until June, that only happened once in the four years we have been here. We plant something every Earth Day, this year a rose bush, well and the garden we are learning to grow. We also use those energy bulbs. Just started though, so I can not say if they really help our light bill or not.

I was sick on earth day so we really didn’t do much, but we do use energy saving light bulbs, I drive a high-mileage car, we recycle and we turn out lights all the time.

My daughter and I went on a nice walk and admired the spring bulbs that are just coming up.

I agree that everyday should be Earth day. In the family, everyday is Earth day as we make sure that we recycle and we conserve electricity in every way we can.

  7. In the office, we had activities in line with celebrating Earth day.

But at home, we continue to practice simple ways of caring for the earth like saving water as much as possible, recycling stuff like some plastic containers ( we now use it to organize some stuff in the backyard ) and yellow pages among others. :)

  8. Hi there, we are big on recycling here in Australia too – not as good as ‘home’, New Zealand, but they are getting better. We use lots of mulch in our garden too, don’t know about you, but here we get charged for every drop of water we use.

Hi, I agree with everyone here, everyday should be earth day. It should just be a daily habit, to respect the earth. We all live on it, so let’s take good care of it,it takes good care of us.

Yes, every day should be Earth Day, and we should
all treat it as such. I don’t have garbage service,
and only go to the dump about every six weeks.
Today was recycling day at my local recycle depot,
for plastic, cardboard, junk mail, glass and cans,
    and newspapers! :)

I’ve never heard of upcycled, but I like it!

I got some new ideas for reducing the amount of energy we use. Thanks!
