The Big Switch

So, I guess everyone has heard about the big switch to digital television in February 2009. It seems every nightly program has a crawl that announces that the analog signal will be turned off, and you will either need a digital TV or a converter to watch broadcast television.

Well, we need a second television for the bedroom and are torn about whether to go digital or not. Getting a HDTV will take up less room since we can buy an lcd mount and hang it on the wall. That appeals to me but also a cheaper TV sounds good to our budget, especially with trying to save money for a trip later this year.

We will probably go cheaper for right now. But it might be worth doing some comparison shopping since who knows what deals we might can find online for a HDTV. It would be nice to get the latest technology and then not worry with a converter.

    Hi Geeky Housewife.

A think a lot of people share your dilemma regarding the whole analog vs digital television thing.

Personally, I think that at this point in time, if you are going to shell out the bucks for a new television, then you really probably should go ahead and get the digital one.

That said, before putting any television in your bedroom I think you should read my friend’s blog post on the subject here http://drsamonline.com/2008/04/08/how-to-stay-healthy/its-a-teenage-wasteland/

You seem like a pretty smart and common sense sort of gal, and I think it might help you with your final decision.

Good luck with whatever route you pursue!

Interesting article and makes some good points. One of the reasons I want a second TV is to get a TV/DVD combo so the little one can watch a cartoon in the bedroom and wind down. Of course, there’s a part of me that knows that’s illogical because a lot of times it has the opposite effect and hypes her up.

It’s just one of those comfort things like if I’m sick and want to stay in bed, I could watch a movie and rest. That’s why I lean towards cheap and easy for it since it will seldom be used but there’s that geeky part that says get the latest and greatest technology. ;)
