At my part-time job at the newspaper, I hear scanner chatter all day long. It seems in the mornings there is always something going on with trash pickup. Either residents don’t have their trash out or it’s not put out correctly. After listening to this for a few weeks now, I’ve come up with some tips on taking out the trash.
Put trash bags in cans. This will help to make sure that animals do not get into your trash especially if you put it out the night before pickup day. We do that sometimes since it is suggested to have your trash out by the curb by 6:30am.
Check your trash. Bees and other flying insects can swarm your garbage, keep an eye out for these annoying insects and spray if it looks like they are trying to take off with your trash.
Place all trash in bags. This will make it easier for the garage collector as well as might be required. When you have large items that can’t be placed in bags, usually those are picked up separately and not on the same day as regular trash day, or at least not in our city. Check with your local officials for specifics to your area.
If you miss the garbage collector, bring trash cans away from curb. Should you happen to miss trash pickup, set your trash back where it was before and do not leave it next to the road. It stands a better chance of being scattered all over the neighborhood if it is left beside the road for the next pickup day.
These are just a few things that have come to mind while listening to the various situations that have arisen with local trash pickup.
