For the love of popcorn

One of Rae’s favorite snacks is popcorn, or just “corn” as she calls it. It’s amazing how much popcorn this little girl can eat. She might eat a few fries at a meal, but she will eat a lot of popcorn. Popcorn is a great choice when you have the munchies since it takes a while to eat and is one of the better for you snack foods. When we stayed at a Tampa hotel, they had a couple of popcorn machines in the lobby and always had hot popcorn each night. Hot popcorn is the best to me. I’m not wild about popcorn once it’s been sitting out for a few hours.

I love the small single serving size of microwave popcorn as they are perfect for Rae. Right now they have special packs that are orange and have a Halloween theme. I might pick up some more to give out to trick or treaters instead of candy. We seldom have trick or treaters, so this way we have a better snack for us than leftover candy. I always buy way too much candy and wind up eating most of what is left after Halloween. The popcorn is definitely a better idea.

I’ll buy that for $5…

While shopping the other day, I noticed that my idea of a good bargain seemed to be items that were $5 or less. This made me realize two things: 1) I’m easily entertained and 2) I can easily make $5(well really more) a week with one of my favorite blog advertising companies PayU2Blog.com.

Making a little extra cash with my blog has been a lifesaver for us. With just one steady income, the money I make from blogging really helps to keep us afloat. For me, working with PayU2Blog has been a great experience, so much so that I created a video showing some of my great less than $5 finds and how easily it is to get started with PayU2Blog.

Building an Ice Castle

At one of our playgroups, we built an ice castle. Well, I say we meaning more the Moms since the kids weren’t that interested in it. It was fun, though and easy. We filled up plastic containers with water and placed them in the freezer overnight. We had different sizes that you then stacked on top of each other to make the castle. One Mom even put food coloring in her ice to make colored ice structures.

It was fun and for a hot day in the South was a nice cool treat.

Do it Yourself Invitations

I am getting ready for Rae’s two year birthday party and thinking about making the birthday inviations myself. I feel confident doing them myself and most other invitations except for wedding invitations that I would rather just buy than try to make.

Rae is really into Alice in Wonderland, and it’s very hard to find anything movie related in the local stores. Making the inviations would be simple enough and really give it a personal touch. Most, if not all of the invitaions, I will be able to just email. That will certainly be easier than trying to mail them and cheaper.

I love when I can do some things myself and save money. It also creates a personal touch to the party by having a one-of-a-kind invitation. It will be at least something unique for the scrapbook if nothing else.

Cheap Thrills

It doesn’t take much to really impress a two year old. I picked up Rae a coloring book on sale and decided to get her a pack of colors to go with it. I spent less than $1 for both items.

She has had more fun with the colors. First she took them all out of the box. We then placed them in a plastic bowl so they would be easy for her to grab and get to. For the past two days she has pranced around saying "colors" with at least one crayon in her hand.

I thought she would enjoy coloring with them but didn’t realize just how much time she would actually spend using them. A 24 pack of crayons was 12 cents. It’s been worth every penny.

Painting Walls Red

One of our bedrooms we are painting red. What we’ve learned from painting with the color red is that using white primer is not the best way to go.

Instead we should have taken the lead of Trading Spaces and used a lighter red color for the primer instead of going with white. Red is hard to cover a wall evenly. And it was one of those paints that you can’t just paint over while wet. You have to wait until it dries, making it that much more difficult to fix those ligther spots.

So next time we paint something red, we’re using a lighter shade of red as the primer.

Space Saver

We will have very limited space in Rae’s room for bed and furniture. So, every square inch of space saved will help to make the room as comfortable as possible. While Raegan may not need bunk beds, there are some bunk bed set ups that would be nice to give her more space plus has an extra bed for guests.

Some bunk beds have a top bed and underneath have a desk and drawers. This will help to make the most of a small space. It’s an idea for the future. Right now she is a little young for a top bunk but in a few years a bunk bed/desk might be the perfect space saving solution for her room.

Settling Down

We are current move we are in a place that I see us for at least three years. Once my husband has more experience then we could possibly move out of state. This makes it difficult to think about buying real estate since it’s so expensive and who knows how the market will be if we need to sell in a few years.

One of the places on our list to move is North Carolina. We honeymooned there and would love to buy something like Beaufort NC real estate if we do indeed move to the area. Everyone around here has been to North Carolina for vacation. The weather is pleasant most of the time and it is still in the south. Plus there is a lot of opportunity for my husband there.

It’s just something to think about in the future. Still there’s no place like home.

Moving Expenses

Moving just seems to be one expense after another. Between desposits and incidentals, we may have to get a payday loan to make sure our money can pay all of it.

At least the move is down. Now it’s all about moving in. We will probably go in stages to have services turned on. We have the basics but need cable and Internet, which since we are now in country, will mean satellite. So, we will have to do one at a time in order to afford it. Being the geeks that we are, Internet will be first even with premier week right around the corner.

I still feel this move will be the right thing for us. It just takes an adjustment period. It will definitely help to have high speed again.

Dial Up

Our move is complete! Yippee! Now to unpack and make repairs to the new place. Right now we are on dial up but thank goodness high speed will be installed Thursday. Oh happy day!

Using dial up to basically check email and not much else has made me really miss my high speed Internet. I remember my early Internet days when 2400 baud was smokin’ fast. How times have changed.

Look for more regular posts sometime after Thursday morning when we once again will be in the land of broadband.

About Housewife

I'm a mostly stay at home mom who loathes cleaning, cooking, and anything that remotely might be described as housework. I love trying new products and sharing household tips that save time and energy. Sure, I could post a ton of tips that I've read or found on the Internet, but I prefer to use tips and hints that I actually use.
