Cold Relief

Sickness is in the air at our house. Everyone has taken their turn with the box of Kleenex this past week. When I’m sick there is nothing like Puffs Plus. Those are the tissues with the lotion inside them. After a few days of using tissues, I so appreciate the lotion.

I drink orange juice to make me feel better and usually take an ibuprofen to help relieve the aches and pains that can happen because of a cold.

There is no magic cure for the cold; you just have to tough it out. Thank goodness for soft tissues and pain relievers or the days of suffering with a cold would seem twice as long.

Rummage Sales

I love to go to rummage sales and hate to have them. I love the extra money, but it’s no fun to have a rummage sale. It’s a lot of work but at least I get rid of some junk that someone really needs.

My neighbor is a rummage sale guru. She knows what sells and what doesn’t. She has some great tips and advice. I’m going to take part in her spring rummage sale this year. I was getting ready to toss some stuff out today when she suggested putting it under the shed and selling it.

One of her tips is to hang up your clothing as it sells better on hangers. My past rummage sales you are lucky if the clothes are on a table as they are usually just in a big pile on the ground. So, she saves clothes hangers throughout the year to use for the rummage sale. I’ve started to save hangers for our clothing that will be in the sale. I’ve always had more luck selling kitchen items and other brick-a-brack instead of clothes.

It’s always easier to do a lot of tasks when you have someone to do it with you. I’m actually looking forward to this rummage sale even though it is a few months away. It’ll be nice to cull our junk and make a few dollars.

WordPress Plugins

If you use WordPress, there are several plugins available to help monetize your blog. Lorelle’s WordPress blog lays out many good plugins in categories like adsense, Amazon affiliates, Paypal donations..etc.

A few of the plugins I am familiar with. I don’t use that many plugins and seldom search for any. Articles like Lorelle’s really help me to see some of the ways to make money with my blog that I knew about but wasn’t sure how to incorporate with WordPress.

My Many Toolbars

I have four toolbars that are above and beyond the standard Internet Explorer toolbars. There are only a few features of each toolbar that I really want, so it would be nice to customize each one.

After having to click on three different popup blocker warnings, I decided it was time to do something about all my toolbars. After doing a few clicks, I found a way to customize my toolbars.

For Yahoo!, I had to sign in to my Yaoo! account. From there, I was able to remove buttons that I didn’t want. I even found a few features that I wanted to add like flickr and del.iciou.us. The Google toolbar has the settings button that allows you to add and remove buttons. Alexa toolbar was easy to trim down by just selecting the Alexa options button from the toolbar.

Now that my toolbars are much smaller, it’s time to click and drag the toolbars onto the same row. You can move a toolbar by clicking in the far left corner and holding down the mouse. Be sure to click on the gray line. Then move the toolbar.

I’ve trimmed down from four lines to toolbars to three. It’s a start.

Alexa RanK

Geeky Housewife is a brand, spanking new blog. I’ve had it for about a month. I noticed today that I have an Alexa ranking of 6,387,108. There’s probably not that many more websites in existence. It’s still nice to have a number on the Alexa toolbar even if it is gigantic.

Safeguard soap for Fleas

Here it is, the middle of winter ,and the cats have fleas. What is up with that? They go outside for all of two minutes and come back with fleas. Unbelievable.

I had bought a cat flea spray, but the cat hate it. I guess it’s the spraying sound it makes. I never get the coverage with it since they run for the hills after the first mist hits them.

While it isn’t easy or pleasant to give a cat a bath, it really helps with the fleas. We use Safeguard soap that works really well at killing fleas. The best thing about Safeguard is that you can buy a huge pack for around $3. It’ll last forever.

It always makes me feel better to give the cats a bath with Safeguard when I find a flea. I’ll itch for days until I bathe them, then I feel better. The bath not only kills fleas but gives me peace of mind that I’m doing something for us all.

Orange Juice

This has been a rough week. All three of us have been sick. The baby, me, and hubby all have the same ole crud. I’d rather have a 24 hour bug than this lingering cold. At least with the 24 hour virus you can expect to feel better in a few days.

I bought some orange juice today. This is usually the first thing that we buy when we have a cold but slipped our minds. I have drank just a few ounces and already feel better.

Orange juice is our miracle cure for the common cold. Nothing makes me feel better than drinking orange juice when I’m sick. It gives me energy and seems to help me get over the cold faster. This could all be in my head, but I really do think orange juice is the best thing to drink when you have a cold.

Laser Level

One household item I have wanted for a while is a laser level. Since I am rearranging some things in our house, it seemed like a good time to buy one. I have a few pictures to hang as well as shelves to put up.

I can’t believe I haven’t bought one sooner especially since I bought one for $15.00. I thought they were much more expensive. Laser levels might have been pricey when they first hit the market, but that has been a while back.

It sticks to the wall with double-sided 3M tape that has a pull tab to release it from the wall. This will make it so much easier to hang stuff.

The laser level makes it much easier to level something than our old method of using a tape measure to make sure each place that needs a nail is the same height from the floor.

Now to find the stud finder, and I’m all set to begin hammering away.

Satellite Radio Companies plan merger

Apparently XM and Sirius radio have agreed on a merger. Both satellite radio companies have reported significant loses as they try to build up their lineup. The deal will be under close scrunity from the Federal Communications Commission since a merger would violate a rule about two satellite companies merging together. It appears that the ruling may be more of a suggestion and can possibly be waived.

I subscribe to XM but admit that there are a few channels on Sirius that I would like. It will be interesting if the deal goes through how this will affect service, price of service, and customer relations.

Mrs. WordPress

Darring over at Problogger.net had a post about Mrs. WordPress. If you have ever used WordPress, then you know the first comment is from Mr. WordPress and has a message that says “this is a comment..delete..blah blah blah..” Anyway, some creative mind has started Mrs. WordPress, a blog about the wife of Mr. WordPress. Apparently, Mr. WordPress has flown the coop, and she wants him back.

It’s kind of silly and comical. I’m sure it’ll be a big Internet sensation for all of five minutes. It just started last week and already has meaningful comments. Le sigh.
