Microsoft Vista

Microsoft Vista is now available. I remember when Windows 95 went on sale at midnight. It was a big deal. I’m not so sure I’m all that “wowed” with Vista. My parents are buying a new computer and will go with Vista. I’m not sure they need all the media and other features of Vista. It hopefully will play solitaire well for my folks.

I’ll at least to get to tinker with it and see if it is something I want to upgrade to. I have a feeling though that I’ll upgrade when XP is no longer supported.

Deals on Breast Pumps

If you are planning to breastfeed your baby, changes are at some point you will need a breastpump. Finding the right breastpump can be a tiring task. I bought at least 3 breastpumps and never did find just the right one for me.

Breastpumps.com has plenty of breast pumps and discounts on them. You can spend a small fortune on a breast pump, so any money you can save is a good deal.

Kid’s TV Tray

I bought the little one a TV tray since she enjoy sitting in her couch so much that this would give her a spot to put her sippie cup and snacks.

The problem with the tray is that it is unstable and moves really easy on the floor. So, she keeps doing a Chris Farley and falling on it, ultimately winding up on the floor.

I tried to stabilized the tray by putting pot grippers around the legs. It works somewhat well but still slides on the floor. I’m thinking the tray would best be served in a room with carpet and to get a higher-end tray for our family room.

She loves the tray though and not only eats off of it but likes to play on it with her toys. It’s been a great $3 investment, and if she were a little older we probably wouldn’t be having so many issues with it sliding everywhere.

Sausage Balls

Sausage balls are one of my favorite appetizers. They are easy to make and a crowd pleaser. Really, how can you go wrong with bread, cheese, and meat?

Ingredients:

2 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese (I use mild cheddar cheese most of the time, and it’s still yummy.)
2 lbs hot sausage
4 cups Bisquick mix

Mix all ingredients together until you have dough. Take dough and roll pieces into bite-size balls. A spoonful of dough is just about right. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

This yields 60-75 sausage balls. You can make these ahead of that big party. Freeze sausage balls and reheat as needed.

Diaper Changing

When the little one was first born, I had seen mobiles and other toys to use at the diaper changing station of your nursery to keep the baby entertained while you change their diaper. Well, I never had a need for any of that since our baby was always still and didn’t seem to mind so much having her diaper changed. Now that she is mobile, it’s a different story.

It’s hard to get her to stay still long enough to change her diaper. Sometime we tag team when the husband is home, which makes it easier to change her. Now when I get ready to change her diaper, I always round up at least one toy or something to distract her. If I don’t do it beforehand, I’ll never get her changed.

All those cute toys to keep her occupied while changing her diaper that I thought I didn’t need I just didn’t need them yet.

Car Insurance

I’ve recently been shopping for cheaper car insurance. It has been a few years since I’ve done this. Last time I went with the cheapest I could find and thought that would be the best deal from now on.

Well, after a few rate hikes, I’m dissatisfied so I’ve been collecting online quotes. I’ve been pleasantly surprised the I have found a few quotes that are much cheaper than what I’m currently paying. I thought the reason behind our rate hike was a change to the state’s minimum insurance policy specifications and figured that most companies would be about the same price. After all, our current insurance company was the best deal just a few years ago.

So, my lesson is learned, and I should not just assume that just because I couldn’t find a better rate a few years ago that I can’t find one now. Ironically, I’m leaning towards going with a company that was way higher than our current insurance a few years ago.

Storytime at the Library

After weeks of trying, we finally made it to storytime at the local library. Twice a month they have storytime in the children’s floor of the library. The little one seemed to enjoy it, and it was great to be around other parents of small children. So many of my friends do not have kids, so I would love to get to know some parents who live near us.

Story time was fun and great outing, especially since it has been so cold and dreary lately. It was nice to get out and enjoy an activity.

Children’s Furniture

My 15-month-old loves her furniture. We got her a Princess love seat for Christmas. It folds out into a bed. It’s so cute. When she gets tired, I lay the futon-like sofa bed out, and she’ll lie down with her blanket. She hasn’t fallen asleep yet on her couch, but she does get really still.

Buying toddler furniture has been a smart move for us as the baby loves having her own place to watch TV or just relax. Now I have to get her a TV tray for her own coffee table.

The Grocery Game

I’m not big into clipping coupons or searching for the best grocery deals. My geeky side loves The Grocery Game because of its concept and presentation. The Grocery Game makes finding those local bargains and relates it in game terminology.

The first four weeks to be a member of the Grocery Game is just $1. After that, the cost depends on how many stores you have signed up for to get the inside scoop on their specials. Think of the Grocery Game as someone scouring the countless ads each week to bring them to you in an easy format.

For one store on your list, the bi-monthly cost is $10. That’s still not a bad deal because if you use the site each week then you are likely to save at least that on your grocery bill.

I might try the trial offer. There is only a few stores in my area, and I don’t really shop at them. I might give it a try and see if the savings are worth the money.
